So sorry this is late, a storm knocked out the power in my area.

Anyway, welcome members of [livejournal.com profile] sacred_damned and [livejournal.com profile] dhsanctuary!

I hope you all have fun discussing Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon. If you have any questions please let me know. This is the very first time I've had a book discussion so if you have any suggestions or have actually taken part in one before and can offer some helpful advice (like better questions for one) please drop me a line at: seline_bennet@sbcglobal.net

Here's how it's going to work:
1. We will be discussing five chapters of the book at a time, I highly suggest that you track this entry so that you'll be aware when someone posts a comment.
2. Ask your own questions! I will constantly edit this post to include your questions in the discussions!
3. The copy and paste form at the bottom is just a starter, feel free to add anything and again ask your own questions!

1. Does the setting affect the believability of a story? For example, does New Orleans make the storyline more believable than if it took place say in Houston, TX?

I do agree here. It does due to New Orleans' great voodoo culture along with its following of the Anne Rice Novels, as well as the rich Paranormal (ghost) history. It definitely makes the books have a greater ambiance

2. Chapter one starts off with Selena's embarassingly loud comment ("Honey, you need to get laid") to Grace Alexander, from there the reader begins to learn a little more about Grace, what were your first impressions of her?

Grace reminded me of my friend, which made the book funner to read. As a matter of fact that line is the ONLY reason I picked it up. LOL

3. Fun Question: What would you do if you had a friend like Selena?

OMG I asked my self this question all the way through the book. She's definitely a friend that I'd love to have but then again I'm almost as cookee as she is. As a matter of fact I think I have a friend similar to her. Not exactly but close. With the craziness factor and what not.

When I read the first line I started laughing out loud, that's something that my best friend would have told me. I completely felt for Grace, she loves her best friend but hates the comments she (and later Julian) makes.

1. Does the setting affect the believability of a story? For example, does New Orleans make the storyline more believable than if it took place say in Houston, TX? Not really but since New Orleans was where Anne Rice started it all for me, yeah, it sorta helped.

2. Chapter one starts off with Selena's embarrassingly loud comment ("Honey, you need to get laid") to Grace Alexander, from there the reader begins to learn a little more about Grace, what were your first impressions of her?A lot like me. >__< oh that is just sad...

3. Fun Question: What would you do if you had a friend like Selena?
I actually do and I love her! She's totally different from me and doesn't care about the crap that's thrown her way, it's very refreshing.

It's okay about being late - most had their nose in Potter this weekend anyway. :)

The New Orleans setting worked for me. I know the New Orleans setting has likely been overdone, but New Orleans is just such a neat place! As for Selena, I'd love to have a friend like her - she's hilarious.

The first five chapters were my favorite. I loved seeing Grace in shock over Julian! And Julian in Jackson Square, ogled by hordes of women, too funny.

I thought it was funny the way Grace reacted to Julian. As much as a lot of us would like to say that we'd throw ourselves at someone so gorgeous (male or female), we'd have a moment of extreme shock and fear.

From the start, Grace the skeptic vs. Selena the beliver was fun!

Oh yeah, two totally opposite best friends is a good formula for laughs.

Well I love New Orleans. When I read the book, I lived in Hattiesburg, so it was really great to go there and see where everything would have taken place. It almost seemed like it really happened as opposed to some fantasy town she made up.

Well, at the time I read this, i was still a virgin, so I could kinda relate to Grace in that perspective (plus I was super shy).

Selena is so awesome, there should always be a friend who is like that, y'know for you to laugh and be silly with.

Sure, New Orleans really is worth the hype, at least in my opinion! I live in MS too so try to visit NO every year. Did you know that Sherrilyn Kenyon lived in several cities in our home state? I purchased a few of her books at the local used book store the other day and the owner informed me that Sherrilyn used to be one of her regular customers. I think she moved a few years back.

Really? You went to New Orleans? That's so cool. I'd love to go and see (and drive my mom crazy going "OH LOOK! In the books this happens here...").

Selena is just one wacky woman. Her flamboyance amuses me as does her lack of an embarassment chip :D

I believe the setting does add to the credibility of a story, I'm sure if the setting had been Salem or Ireland it would be believable as well as in New Orleans.

2. Chapter one starts off with Selena's embarassingly loud comment ("Honey, you need to get laid") to Grace Alexander, from there the reader begins to learn a little more about Grace, what were your first impressions of her?
I completely feel for her seeing as I'm in the same situation she's in at the beginning of the book. She's shy about her sexuality because of a bad experience. It's hard on her and I sympathize with her.

3. Fun Question: What would you do if you had a friend like Selena?
I'd strangle her. Then I'd hug her for being just the kind of friend I need. Though the loud comments she makes would take a lot of time getting used to!

1. Does the setting affect the believability of a story? For example, does New Orleans make the storyline more believable than if it took place say in Houston, TX?
I think it's easier to believe that it would take place in New Orleans, just because of the history of the town, and the stories that have come about because of it.

2. Chapter one starts off with Selena's embarassingly loud comment ("Honey, you need to get laid") to Grace Alexander, from there the reader begins to learn a little more about Grace, what were your first impressions of her?
Shy and quiet, yet not afraid to go after what she really, really wants, much like a standard heroine.

3. Fun Question: What would you do if you had a friend like Selena?
I know I'd never know a dull moment, XD

4. Grace's first reaction to Julian is one of shock and fear, quickly followed by a hesitant interest in his... body. What would your reaction have been and what might have you said to Julian?
I would have blushed madly and stuttered a hello, XD. I don't handle naked men very well.

5. Additional comments/questions:

Nope, not that I can think of, XD

Let's see, a naked, gorgeous man in front of me... Will lead to "Um, I'll be right back," as well as stuttering, blushing and running to get the guy some clothes QUICK!

@ Question 4:
Duh, they found out I'm a high rate psychic working for The Secret Alliance of Freaks and send their best agent to infiltrate...me.... *g*

Sorry, being saucy again, but this was just so tempting...
