So while we eagerly (and in my case desperately) await the release of Bad Moon Rising, I thought we'd just have a lovely chat about the series in general.
How did you find out about/get into the Dark Hunter series? What is your favorite thing(s) about the series? Least favorite?
Who's story are you most excited about and can't wait for? Why?
Have you gotten the Manga? If so, what did you think about it?
I found the series completely by accident. I was looking for a different kind of romance novel all together and someone on
romancenovels directed me to a site that listed paranormal romance novel authors. I started choosing authors at random but was becoming discouraged because none of them got my attention. The last author I randomly chose was Sherrilyn Kenyon and BOOM! I was hooked by just the sample that was up at her site. I loved how different the storyline was compared to other books, that each book was part of a bigger story and that the gods and goddesses of different cultures played a large part of ruining/aiding the characters. I loved that Sherri keeps building the mystery around several characters like Ash, Savitar, Nick, and Jaden.
I have to say I'm really curious and excited to read Nick's story, he's so angry, bitter and confused that he's going to need a lot of help to learn to live with what's happened to him and I hope he and Ash will go back to being friends again.
Yes, I've gotten the manga and I love it. Not as much as the books but I think it's a great idea. I've already pre-ordered volume 2.
Remember that you CAN have spoilers in your comments but to keep from spoiling the series for those who aren't caught up, please put a warning in the subject line of your comment.

Date: 2009-07-17 07:15 pm (UTC)I can't wait for Nick's story because he's one of my favorite characters. Everything he's gone through just makes him even more compelling. Besides his future book I'm looking forward to the Chronicles of Nick that Sherri is writing.
I've read the manga and thought it was great. I loved seeing the characters drawn so I can finally stop trying to picture them in my head. I was a little upset that it had been split into two parts because then I had to wait to see Ash and Simi in their cute cartoon forms.

Date: 2009-07-17 08:09 pm (UTC)I was pleasantly surprised because that was how I'd pictured him too. He's the first Dark Hunter you meet so of course he'd be the one that everyone will always love. I'm really interested in seeing what the artist thinks Zarek should look like since he's the one that I fell in love with. Maybe that's why I've grown to like Nick so much. They're dark around the edges but soft at heart.

Date: 2009-07-17 10:04 pm (UTC)I love the way that just because a character gets their HEA, their story isn't over but that does mean I didn't like Ravyn's story so much because they were missing!
I'm looking forward to Bad Moon Rising (I have a huge soft spot for the wolves) and I want Sundown and Urian (who I am also inordantly fond of) to have books.
I got the manga and I love it - it's fun even if Nick's hair looks a bit odd to me and Julian reminds me of Sam from Supernatural but blond!

Date: 2009-07-18 12:23 am (UTC)My friend Stephanie and her mom started reading them, and then they told our friend Ericka, who then told me ALL about the books that she had read, so the next time we went out, I bought myself a copy of Night Play, read it in one night, and have been hooked since. I love the details, and that there is so much actual history behind the stories. I can't think of anything that I've ever disliked about the series...
Who's story are you most excited about and can't wait for? Why?
I was dying for Ash's book. Leading to his book, we were given tantalizing hints about his past and why he is the way he is, but to read the whole back story, and then see him get his HEA, well, it was a feel good point, and yet there was the hint of something so much worse on the horizon.
Have you gotten the Manga? If so, what did you think about it?
Not yet, because the Barnes and Noble is my area sucks. I have to order is special online, and just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Date: 2009-07-18 06:56 am (UTC)Have you checked at comic book stores in your area? Sometimes you can get lucky and they'll have a good selection of Manga.

Date: 2009-07-18 12:25 am (UTC)One of my favorite things is how everything is intertwined and a minor character in one book becomes a major one in another. And I love the gods and goddesses and how they're portrayed. I never would've pegged Artemis as a huge bitch! There's not really anything I don't like about it!
I really can't wait for Savitar or Jaden's books. I hope they're as long as Acheron's book was! Both those characters are shrouded in mystery and you only get a taste of their past in the books. I want it all!
I JUST bought the manga today! I may have to put the other book I'm reading (Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning) on hold while I read the manga. I can't wait for it!
AND AND. Sherri's coming to Dallas next month! My friend and I are definitely going! It'll be her fifth time seeing her and my FIRST. I can't wait; I'm so excited!

Date: 2009-07-18 09:07 pm (UTC)How did you find out about/get into the Dark Hunter series? What is your favorite thing(s) about the series? Least favorite?
I picked up Arik's story in the hospital store before I was induced and kept it as a 'break this in case of boredom emergency' book. Though I did skim (I didn't have much time), I really couldn't put it down! And so it began. My favorite book is Dance with the Devil and my least favorite...(don't kill me) is probably Ash's book. Maybe I'm still bitter, feeling slighted by the length of the second part. Still, I should read it again and see if I like it better.
Who's story are you most excited about and can't wait for? Why?
Probably one of the newer, 'grayer' characters, like the demons. I want to see more of Asmodeus, he's funny. And, of course, Simi and Nick. Jaden and Jared will but fun I'm sure, but I'm worried that I'll be disappointed (and don't know how many more torture scenes I can sit through).
Have you gotten the Manga? If so, what did you think about it?
I would like to get the manga, but first, I'd like to know, is it a new character, or is the manga redoing one of the older stories? I'd love the former, actually. Love to see some of my fav darkhunters in color, or black and white.

Date: 2009-07-19 02:56 am (UTC)Well, I go to DragonCon down in Atlanta every year and, before last year's D*Con, I was looking at the book for D*Con 2007 and there was an ad for Ash's book on the back. Right after that, I saw a commercial for Ash's book so I downloaded it and read it and I. Was. HOOKED. I downloaded all the books and read them in ALL in like 6 days. My friends (and my husband) joked that the books made me their bitch because I read them completely...I barely looked up from the computer until I'd read them all. I love how Sherry just weaves each story to where you feel like you know the characters and you can imagine them in all these places. And I love the mythological element to the whole series. I love the fact that the Gods and Goddesses are written to where they're so humanly immortal. My least favorite thing is, well, I'm a Dark Hunter girl through and through with Were Hunter tendencies and, while I appreciate her inclusion of the dreams gods and dream hunters, I just can't get into them.
Who's story are you most excited about and can't wait for? Why?
Oh Nick's book hands down! I love how tragic Nick is. I'm making a fan mix for the entire series and I'm having one song for each Hunter we've met and Nick's was my favorite to pick..."Dead Boy's Poem" by Nightwish. I love Nick and part of me is so mad at Ash for not telling Nick about Simi to begin with, especially once Kyrian and Amanda were together. But, at the same time, I can see that Nick's hot headed nature would've gotten him into trouble anyway. I love Nick and I miss him. I'm also VERY excited Fang and Amy, too. I love tragic/star-crossed love stories.
Have you gotten the Manga? If so, what did you think about it?
I haven't gotten the manga yet primarily because I can't find any bookstore local to me that has a copy just so I can see it in person (as it were). If all else fails, I'm planning on picking up a copy at DragonCon in September. It'll go nicely with my copy of Ash's book and the Dark Hunter Companion for Sherry (and Althea for the DHC) to sign. :)

Date: 2009-07-19 03:18 am (UTC)An on-line friend wrote a FF story that involved one of the characters being a vampire. It renewed my love for vampires so we got to talking about vampire ff, mangas, and novels. I've always loved vampires since way back, but had never read any stories or books with them in it. She rec me some books/authors for vampire novels she enjoyed and the DH series was one of them. She said I could probably skip the first book, since there wasn't much in that about vampires, but the future stories were. I read Fantasy Lover anyway (twice) and was hooked and started buying the books. But I got sidetracked by another series and didn't move on to the next book right away. I made it back to the series and started really reading them after I found out about BMR book signing in the next city over. Since I'm going to the book signing, I decided I needed to try and finish the books to be ready to read BMR. I'm currently 1/2 finished w/Dark Side.
What is your favorite thing(s) about the series? Least favorite?
Fav thing (besides the hot smex :) is the Greek background of some of the characters. I read a Greek mythology book in grade school and the stories were so fascinating. I fell in love w/Greek mythology, even though I haven't read anything else since then. Least fav is that some of the characters are prejudiced against each other. And I know there needs to be some animosity to keep the story interesting, it kinda hurts to read the hurtful things that they did/do to each other. Sometimes to their own family.
Who's story are you most excited about and can't wait for?
Why?
I'm still behind in reading the series, so I'm eager to get to Ash's book to find out what the whole deal is behind who and what he is. There have only been hints in the books so far leading up to his story.
Have you gotten the Manga? If so, what did you think about it?
I got it the day it release. I'm a HUGE manga fan so I was excited. And even though the ones I normally buy are 18+, I LOVED it. The drawings were outstanding. Kyrain is drawn so hawt! *drools* I only wished the whole story was finished there instead of having to wait for the next part of it. I can hardly wait for the next one. :)

Date: 2009-07-20 03:30 am (UTC)I really like the humor in all of the books. There's always some aspect of crazy hilarious-ness in every book. I think my favorite humor moment is when Valerius helps tabitha's crossing roommate at a drag ball. ROFL. I haven't liked some of the more recent books about the dream-hunters, just feel like they aren't *really* part of the loop...
I've been DYING for Ami's story for a really long time now... Pretty much since Bride's story and Wren's story I've been waiting for her book. :DDD
I'm also hoping that Kenyon does a story about Artemis... not sure who'll be able to stomach her (haha) but at least it'll be interesting! Hopefully, it's not Nick, he totally deserves better.
I got the first manga at NY Comic Con as a gift but it really wasn't my thing. I guess I'm just a purist. lol.
PS. I met (and hugged!!!) Sherrilyn Kenyon at NY Comic con and she is so sweet and fabulous! Love her so much. Meeting her and chatting about the books just made reading them so much better!!
